Sell silver

Silver is valued with the same method as gold, but the figure per gram often surprises people because it is much lower. This page explains how silver is valued, which pieces are accepted and why the difference from gold is normal and says nothing bad about your pieces.

Which silver pieces can be sold?

Complete or loose cutlery, trays, centrepieces, jewellery and any silver object, marked or not. Incomplete pieces, tarnished pieces and loose cutlery from different sets that are no longer used are also accepted.

How is silver valued?

The same as gold. The piece is weighed on a certified scale, at your own table, and its purity is checked with a test that does not damage the piece. From the weight and the purity the value is calculated, according to the market price of silver. You can read more in how we calculate value.

What does the 925 mark mean?

It is the most common mark on jewellery and cutlery silver. It means that, out of every thousand parts, nine hundred and twenty-five are pure silver and the rest are other metals, added to make the piece more resistant to daily use.

Why is the price per gram of silver so low compared with gold?

Because they are two different metals, with a very different market value. Gold is much scarcer, so its price per gram is much higher. It is not that your silver is worth little, it is that a gram of silver and a gram of gold cannot be compared in the same way, and it helps to be clear about this before the visit.

Does the condition of the piece matter?

No. A scratched tray, a loose teaspoon or a tarnished piece are valued the same as a piece in perfect condition, provided they have the same weight and the same purity. Tarnish can be cleaned, the weight of the metal does not change.

How does the visit work?

A valuer comes to your home on the day we agree with you, identifies himself with a name, photo and identification number, and weighs each piece at your table. He gives you the value in writing, with a receipt for each piece, before you decide anything.

Can silver be sold together with gold in the same visit?

Yes. If you have gold and silver pieces, the valuer weighs and values them separately, each according to its own metal, in the same appointment and at no extra cost.
