Is the gold price what I will be paid for my piece?
Not exactly. The gold price is the starting point, not the final result. The value we pay for a particular piece also depends on its weight, its purity and its condition, which the valuer checks in your home. You can read more in how we calculate value.
Why is this difference made?
Because they are two different questions. One is how much a gram of pure gold is worth today on the market. The other is how much one of your pieces is worth, which may have fewer than 24 carats and a weight of its own. The valuer joins the two things to give you a value in writing.
Does the price change every day?
Yes. The gold price moves with the market, so it can vary from one day to the next. That is why it is updated daily on our main page, so that the reference is always that of the day.
How is the value of my piece calculated from that price?
The valuer starts from today's gold price and applies the weight and purity of your particular piece, as well as assessing its condition. The result is the value of your piece, different from the general market figure. You can read more in what are carats.
